Can I Use a Photo of My ID for Online Notarization?

Can I use a photo or screenshot of my ID?

No. A photo, screenshot, photocopy, or previously saved digital image of your identification cannot be used in place of the identification credential required for your Remote Online Notarization session.

You must have the actual identification credential in your possession during the appointment and be able to present it through the live audio-video session.

The RON platform may also require you to capture images of your identification as part of credential analysis and identity verification before the session. Those images are used by the platform to verify the credential; they do not mean that a previously saved photo or screenshot can substitute for the identification itself.

All required identity-verification steps must be successfully completed before the notarization can proceed.
