What Do I Need for a Florida VIN Verification?

What do I need to bring to my VIN Verification appointment?

Please have the following available for your appointment:

  1. The vehicle being inspected — The vehicle must be accessible so the VIN can be physically inspected.
  2. Government-issued photo identification.
  3. Vehicle paperwork, such as the title, registration, bill of sale, or other documents related to your title or registration transaction, if available.
  4. Form HSMV 82042 (Vehicle Identification Number and Odometer Verification), if it was provided to you by the tax collector, motor vehicle office, dealer, or other requesting party.

If you do not already have Form HSMV 82042, please let us know when scheduling.

If the vehicle has an electronic odometer and an odometer reading is required for your transaction, please make sure the vehicle has enough battery power for the mileage to display.

If your vehicle is inoperable, has a dead or missing battery, or has another condition that could affect the inspection, please tell us before your appointment.

One change I made intentionally: I would not say “one may be provided during your appointment” unless you always want to commit to supplying the form. “Please let us know when scheduling” gives you more control and also lets you determine whether 82042 is actually the appropriate paperwork for that customer's transaction.
