Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification is the federally required process employers use to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired to work in the United States. USCIS
The employee completes Section 1 of Form I-9, and the employer or its designated Authorized Representative completes Section 2 by examining acceptable documentation presented by the employee and recording the required information. USCIS
Employers may designate B. Elise Notary Services to act as their Authorized Representative for completion of Section 2. When performing this service, we review the employee's acceptable documents and complete the required verification on behalf of the employer.
Important: I-9 Verification is not a notarization. No notarial seal or stamp is required simply because a Notary Public is serving as the employer's Authorized Representative.
I-9 Verification is also different from E-Verify. Form I-9 is the employment eligibility verification process required for covered new hires, while E-Verify is a separate electronic system used by participating employers to compare information from Form I-9 with government records.
