What is iPen Notarization?

iPen (In-Person Electronic Notarization) is a notarization in which the signer and Notary are physically together in the same location, but the document is signed and notarized electronically rather than on paper.

During an iPen appointment, the Notary verifies the signer's identity in person, performs the required notarial act, and applies the Notary's electronic signature and seal to the electronic document.

iPen combines the face-to-face nature of a traditional notarization with the convenience of an electronic document.

iPen is different from Remote Online Notarization (RON). With iPen, the signer and Notary are physically together. With RON, the signer and Notary communicate remotely through live audio-video technology.

Before choosing iPen, confirm that the receiving party will accept an electronically signed and notarized document.
