What Is VIN Verification in Florida?

What is VIN Verification?

VIN Verification is a physical inspection used to confirm a vehicle's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

During the inspection, an authorized person physically examines the VIN displayed on the vehicle and verifies that it matches the VIN recorded on the applicable vehicle paperwork.

In Florida, VIN Verification is generally required for used motor vehicles being titled in Florida that are not currently titled in Florida, including many vehicles previously titled in another state. Certain vehicles and transactions are exempt. Florida Highway Safety

VIN Verification is part of the Florida title process and does not, by itself, establish ownership or determine whether a vehicle has been reported stolen.

B. Elise Notary Services provides VIN Verification through a commissioned Florida Notary Public for eligible vehicles.

One important distinction: odometer disclosure may also be required as part of the customer's title paperwork, but it isn't the definition of the VIN verification itself. Form HSMV 82042 actually separates the owner's vehicle-identification/odometer declaration in Part A from the authorized person's VIN verification in Part B. Florida Highway Safety
